One of my best days at Mendip Outdor. Working with Rich again, we used 2 abseils, a 60ft wall and the 150 ft wall. Rich gave me the first wall to rig on my own. I asked Rich to knit pick my work today to help me fine tune my work in preparation for the assessment. Once he'd rigged the more complicated set up he came back and checked my rigging. All good except a stopper knot in the wrong place on the bowline knot I used on the first anchor, a big tree. We discussed why I'd got it wrong and prepared for the group.
Rich allowed me to greet and brief the group before running the session with him always a few feet away, occasionally chipping in with a reminder or a suggestion. We gave them a chance to wrap a rope around the leg and demonstrate the power of friction then allowed them to abseil using jumps as opposed to walking down the wall. Once we moved onto the bigger abseil Rich jumped in and ran it with me assisting by putting the clients onto the safety line before they walked towards him. A great session for me and the group thanks to Rich's willingness to allow me the chance to do as much as he did.
