Description

I planned this route using OS 1: 25,000 online maps with my equals partner. We set off from Garth Row early as we knew we had a long day ahead of us. The weather forecast had told us it was going to be hot and we knew there were no shops on the route. We took plenty of food and water to last the day. We initially followed Dry Lane which, very unusually, took us through a school playground. After this we followed a footpath which took us over our highest point Shap Fell 1,500 ft. The most difficult challenge of the day was finding shade to take rest in, if we found any shade we just took a break at that time. Our descent into Shap continued along footpaths and then finally the A6. Our day finished with a walk along small roads to Bampton Grange. Total 17.10 miles / 27.4 km. Total ascent 2,106 ft. This was a challenging walk because of the heat and distance but it was also a fantastic day with amazing views in all directions.
