Description

I took my friend out for his first trip into the mountains, we ascended Glyder Fach via The Gribin. I coached him through the scramble, talking him through hand holds and foot placement, risks of injury and hazards to look out for. He was at the upper end of his limits but handled the short scramble well. His only negative feedback was that I took too long! I could have pushed him through it a little faster to keep his focus on task.
We got the classic pic on the Cantilever stone and I told him a little bit about the history of war in Snowdonia, from the Romans through WW2. Showed him a few plants and got him to taste a wood sorrel leaf!
All in all, it was an excellent intro for him- Low passes over our heads by Hawk training jet and a helicopter. Plus we seen the Red Arrows fly through the Ogwen Valley in formation. Priceless.

Area : Glyderau

The Glyderau (a Welsh plural form, also known in English as the Glyders) are a mountain group in Snowdonia, North Wales. The name derives from the highest peaks in the range, Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach. According to Sir Ifor Williams, the word "Glyder" derives from the Welsh word "Cludair", meaning a heap of stones.
