Description

With M on an uncertain forecast so we went to the western Fannichs. Up the Toman Coinich ridge in rather wet snow. I did not cut across to A'Challeach due to a 'considerable' avalanche forecast on N aspects. Ice on top of Toman Coinich required us to use crampons but it was actually raining at the time. Thence to Sgurr Breac and a search to find highest point. Then back, over shoulder of Toman Coinich & up to A'Chaileach. Down N ridge & successfully found the easiest descent. Even down in the Coire there were obstacles to negotiate. Finally, a very intermittent path through plantings and a dear fence to climb.

Area : Loch Maree to Loch Broom and The Fannaichs

This area contains four main sub-regions: An Teallach, The Fannaichs, Kinlochewe & Letterewe. The highest Munro is Sgurr Mor, part of The Fannaichs range, at a height of 1110m. The impressive Slioch (981m), although not the tallest, is described by the SMC Munros Guide as being ‘one of the great sights of the Northern Highlands’ and well worth a visit. This area sits to the north of the A832 and is almost completely devoid of human habitation.
