Working with a group of 25 people of varying ability from London area. Mixed kit, with a bad forecast. This day was meant to be Scafell Pike but upon the groups arrival the prior evening it was clear this was not going to be a good option. The mornings forecast gave small chance of thunder in the morning.
We ascended Helvellyn from Wythburn, on Thirlmere. I had 2 mountain leaders and 2 trainees with me with the group spread between us.
We were fortunate to actually get a parting of the clouds at the summit and views for a few minutes before returning via the way we came.
Area :
Eastern Fells
The Eastern Fells occupy the region between the A591 Keswick to Ambleside road and the lake of Ullswater to the west. The Helvellyn range forms the main spine of the group. To the south across the depression of Grisedale Hause, is the Fairfield group of fells.
