Description

Start: West Sleddale reservoir car park NY 55483 11411
Distance: 29k
Duration: 9 hours
Direction: S of reservoir then following public bridlepath WSW to Mosedale bothy. Descended to Wrenghill Quarry remains at 440m contour line, then NW following ridge line on well worn path to Harter fell. N up and down over fells including High Street. Followed boundary line wall to Whether Hill, then E over Bampton Common, descending down side of Tail o ling and returning S over Great Ladstones.
Description: Circuit from Sleddale via Mosedale bothy. First mountain after lockdown! Went to plan, good sunny weather, bit windy. Descending Tail o ling path disappeared and sides were both steep and at an angle, requiring some care with footwork and strain on feet. Off path navigation over Great Ladstones - I got it right this time! Attractive cotton flowers in wind.

Area : Far Eastern Fells

Reaching their highest point at High Street(828 metres) they occupy a broad area to the east of Ullswater and Kirkstone Pass. Much quieter than the central areas of Lakeland they offer in general easier but less exciting walking as the fells merge mainly into the surrounding moorlands. Exceptions however are the fine rock scenery to be seen surrounding the head of Haweswater
