Description

Start: Oban Bothy by Loch Morar NM 86342 90043
Distance: 32k
Duration: 12 hours
Direction: Circled head of Loch Morar on E; N alongside stream steeply up to Sgurr nam mierleach 747; W along ridge Sgurr Breach 728m; Sgurr Mor 612; NW alongside stream Allt Budhie descending to 50m above shore then W following track to Tarbert. Then tracks on N bank of Loch Morar W to minor road. N across country from near Morar Lodge to pick up tracks and minor road N into Hostel in Mallaig.
Description: Camped at Oban Bothy by Loch Morar; tried Packraft but the wind was too strong so scrambled round head of loch. Hard climb up following line of stream to ridge, entering cloud around 600m. Following ridge was challenging with ups and downs of peat bog. No paths. Hav ing researched google maps, satellite view and geograph pictures for each map square, I chose to descend NW by stream Allt Budhie but there was a bit of scrambling involved. The rest of the way better tracks. Challenging, long sections in cloud and off path but very rewarding - my navigation succeeded and I came out of the cloud exactly where I thought I was!!

Area : Loch Eil To Glen Shiel (Incl Knoydart)

The Great Glen to the east, the A87 to the north and the A830 to the south separate this area from its surroundings and enclose an area of high mountains and low glens. The highest mountain is Sgurr na Ciche (1040m) and further north the South Glen Shiel Ridge is formed by a whopping seven Munros! Also in the area is The Saddle (1010m) which is home to the classic Forcan Ridge. Peaks in the mountains list are all above 900m.
