Description: I began the Pennine Way on 27/08/2017 in a bad way, having crashed after a horrid fewof years at work/ teaching. This was how mountains rescued me and saved my life. Day 1 was Edale to Crowden in hot, sunny weather via Kinder Scout and Bleaklow. Heat meant challenge for water. Track doen to Rhodeswood was in poor condition and eroded - some other paths have been slabbed to improve but erosion is a real problem in this area, to be aware of for groups.

Area : Dark Peak

Is situated between Sheffield and Manchester. The underlying rock is Millstone grit which is often exposed at the edge of the higher peat bogs for which the area is famous.
