Description

Start: Dinas Mawddwy SH 85887 14881
Distance: 31k
Duration: 10.5 hours
Direction: Follow Cywarch valley NNW then public footpath NE curving round head of valley at Drysgol. Follow track NNE all along ridge of Arrans to where public footpath crosses permissive path still in Access land at 300m contour. Then SE on public footpaths over farmland, SSW Cwm Croes valley and SSE through steep sided bwlch and waterfalls to join road at Pennalt. Return via lanes.
Description: 1400m ascent over day. Spectacular views but challenging series of ascents, 1400m according to OS maps, due to undulations. Took a long time so I did not object to a life back along the lanes from a ranger!

Area : Aran Range

Aran Fawddwy, which is only 9 metres (30 ft) short of being a member of the Welsh 3000s, is the highest peak in the Aran mountain range and the 16th highest summit in Wales. The other two Marilyns in this range are Glasgwm and Esgeiriau Gwynion.[4] It is the highest British mountain south of Snowdon and is the principal summit of the predominant southwest-northeast ridge between Dolgellau and Bala, southern Snowdonia, a ridge that continues westwards as Cadair Idris.
