Description

Start: Derry Lodge NO 04043 93534 (Start point reached by Mountain Bikes from Linn of Dee)
Distance: 23k
Duration: 12hours
Direction: W then NW to Corrour bothy; W following stream up to ridge line then following edge NW over 1213 to Cairn Toul. Return same way.
Description: Hot sunny day. Walk with family who always wanted to do this - used mountain bikes to reach Derry Lodge to reduce walking distance, then walked on easy tracks to Corrour bothy which, to our surprise, has a sort of composting toilet! The climb up a real acheivement and good, if hazy, views. First and only time to scale Cairn Toul (but I will have to return as we did not complete Angel's Peak - family at their limits with Cairn Toul, would not have been sensible to add anything to this, even if small).

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
