Description

A really lovely walk from the village of St. Johann im Pongau (564m) up to the summit of the local mountain the Hahnbaum (1220m). Starting in the village the route goes up to the ski slopes at the foot of the hill. The trail then runs up through woods and follows the line of a small gorge with frozen water falls and small snow covered bridges as the path weaves its way uphill. Eventually the path brings you out onto open snow covered meadows before arriving onto the rodelbahn which leads up to the mountain hut Vogel Huettn. We made sure to stop there for an excellent Kassknockn! Descent followed the same route to start before going straight down the open snowy meadows to the nursery ski slopes an back through the village.
