A three day snow shoeing trip in the Carpathian Mountains of Transylvania.
Day one Lake Balea. An easy walk up to Balea waterfall before getting the cable car up to the top station at Lake Balea. A short walk in this area in very poor weather conditions (heavy snow, wind and very poor visibility) , from the top station up to the Transfargasan highway tunnel to look at the ice formations inside the tunnel.
Day two, again another short walk around Lake Balea in poor weather but with really great snow. Descended by cable car to the valley where we went on a three hour hike up the closed Transfargasan highway.
Day Three After transferring to Rasinari in the Cindrel Mountains. Beautiful weather and good snow conditions. Chair lift ride up from the ski resort of Paltinis. Great 7 hour trek through forest and high alpage with great views across to the other tops and down to Rasiniari and Sibiu. Finished back in the ski resort of Paltinis.
