Description

Introduction to multipitching and G3+ scrambling
Vdiff climber wanted to look at building belays and experience harder scrambles.
*Chosen route too difficult for client in wet conditions.
*Constructed belays were too advanced for the client, overhand in the middle instead of large overhand, combining tactics of multiple slings/pieces to create masterpoint.
*Specific advanced techniques: Guidemode usage was novelty, placing carabiners in order for clients to leave belay caused confusion

Personal learning outcomes:
*Always create belays in sight of client to either coach crux moves or maintain coherent communication
*Verify clients understanding technical aspects of climbing protection before progressing onto more complicated setups.
*Mixing clients objectives across disciplines (even if mutually exclusive) can be problematic IF the client does not actually possess enough experience or enough knowledge to form a sound judgement on why techniques are being deployed at a given time.
