Description

Circular route around the Nuadd Resv'r, starting to the South of the Fans. Wild camp next to resv'r.
Took an old friend out who hadn't been camping / walking for a while. He was not hillwalking fit so had to take it slow, assess progress continually and plan emergency exit routes along each stage of route for him. Night time came horrendous weather from 2300hrs until getting back to car - practised hammock camping and camp site admin needed to be strong for us to stay good. No map reading needed - but the chance to really plan a safe route was very important and I enjoyed it a lot.
Some of the forest had been felled that we were travelling in initially, and having not used the map to get us to the top, we used common sense and picked our own path through the churned up terrain.

Area : Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park

Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecon Beacons) is a mountain range in South Wales. In a narrow sense, the name refers to the range of Old Red Sandstone peaks popular with walkers which lie to the south of Brecon. Sometimes referred to as "the central Beacons" they include South Wales' highest mountain, Pen y Fan. The range forms the central section of the Brecon Beacons National Park (Parc Cenedlaethol Bannau Brycheiniog), a designation which also encompasses ranges both to the east and the west of "the central Beacons". This much wider area is also commonly referred to as "the Brecon Beacons".
