Description

Teaching climbing day somewhere new! Looked at building a fixed ab to access the bottom of the cliffs and used a backed up ab set up to send the client down first. Lots of opportunity to look at finding routes from above, and then relocating from below. Interpreting guide books. Gear placements and belays were the main 'hard skills' of the day. With the client coming away having built 4 out of reach (and quite awkward) anchors.
Had hoped this trip would be taking mock client up the old man of hoy but with less than ideal weather this made a good alternative.

Area : Orkney And Shetland

The most notable trad climbs on Orkney include the Old Man of Hoy and the amazing nearby sea-cliffs. There are several other climbing venues in the Orkney Isles, of which perhaps the most popular are around Yesnaby. Shetland also has a number of climbing venues, mostly scattered around the west coast of Shetland mainland, some with intriguing names like Da Grind o' da Navir.
