A good day off from Raasay house working with an RCI trainee and another instructor as mock clients. Lots of routes done as the pitches are so short. Guided them up in parallel for a route, then let them both have a go at mock leading when climbing in series. The RCI trainee then led a couple of pitches with me on a rope beside them and discussing anchors. We then built a fixed abseil and used this to set up a 'group style' abseil which the RCI trainee managed. Finished with two harder pitches in parallel (but really in series as so short) to give them a chance to play and try some harder moves.

Skye and Raasay – Sea Cliffs and Outcrops
Skye is perhaps more generally well known for the Cuillin mountains, but it also has a large amount of excellent sea cliff and outcrop climbing, mostly on columnar dolerite (such as at Kilt Rock, Staffin and Neist, and at the Trotternish crags in the north). In contrast, the cliffs of the Elgol region are composed of an unusually pocketed light coloured sandstone, and with stunning views over to the Cuillin, they will not disappoint. Also included here are the cliffs of Raasay, reached by ferry from Skye.
