Traverse Roughburn to Aberarder. First time trying this link-up of Beinn a'Chaorainn and Creag Meagaidh. Turned out to be a very enjoyable route - definitely to be recommended. Great views from the Beinn a' Chaorainn summit ridge, great walking on a "feather-bed" surface of Woolly Fringe Moss heath, easy gradient up to Creag Meagaidh summit, the dramatic descent of The Window, the views of the Coire Ardair cliffs, and a good path to finish. I led Marion with our friends Anne, Andy, Maura, and Adrian in lovely bright conditions: cloudier and breezier in the morning, becoming calm and warm on the more sheltered descent. The elapsed time was 8 hours approx - my GPS watch stopped recording at The Window for some reason. Spotted and identified some fantastic specimens of Parsley Fern in the blocky screes below the window.
This was another good lesson in taking "the road less travelled". I enjoyed planning and leading a novel route, challenging but not overly so for the group - extending their confidence and their knowledge of the Meagaidh "range" - which everyone in the party appreciated.
Area :
Creag Meagaidh (Loch Lochy To Loch Laggan)
This area includes the famous Creag Meagaidh Range and surrounding peaks of at least 600m. It stretches east of the A82 between Spean Bridge and Invergarry, and north of the A86 as far east as Stob Coire Dubh. There are a large number of impressive winter climbs in Coire Ardair and endless navigation opportunities on and around the high central plateau of Creag Meagaidh itself. The mountains to the north and east of this range are under East Highlands, Monaliadth Mountains.
