Description

Testing the last walk for my latest guidebook, I walked from Orton to see Queen Victoria's Jubilee monument then headed through Great Asby SSSI nature reserve before heading over to Knott and back down to the village of Orton. The ground was pathless in parts and very rough in places. The weather was dry but very muggy with a brisk wind blowing. Good views however and a very quiet place to visit, I saw no-one once I left the village until I returned to the bottom of the hill.

Area : Far Eastern Fells

Reaching their highest point at High Street(828 metres) they occupy a broad area to the east of Ullswater and Kirkstone Pass. Much quieter than the central areas of Lakeland they offer in general easier but less exciting walking as the fells merge mainly into the surrounding moorlands. Exceptions however are the fine rock scenery to be seen surrounding the head of Haweswater
