Description

Starting in Coniston itself, I headed up historic Walna Scar road, around the back of Brown Pike, before ascending it and on to the ridgeline. Following this, I ticked off a few more fells of Buck Pike and Dow Crag, before dropping down to Goats Hawse and making the ascent to the old man of Coniston.
From here it was a case of handrailing the ridge line, past the unnamed summit and over to Swirl How, with some magnificent vistas along the way.
A bit of light easy scrambling down the East ridge of Swirl How lead me to the col and down to Levers Water before picking my way through the old quarry areas and back down to Coniston.

Area : Southern Fells (Scafell Pike)

The Southern Fells Include Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England, occupy a broad area to the south of Great Langdale, Borrowdale and Wasdale. High and rocky towards the centre of the Lake District, the Southern Fells progressively take on a moorland character toward the south west. In the south east are the well known Furness Fells, their heavily quarried flanks rising above Coniston Water.
