Day 2 for a group of 9, this time going up windy ridge. Incorporating skills from day one getting the group to make decisions for putting on crampons and touching on some navigation.
We used Ciste Mhearad to show emergency shelters, examples of snow holes, scary terrain and how it changes in winter. Followed by summiting cairngorm. A first Munro for some.
Return to 1141 and down the ridge, covering ice axe arrest on the way back.
8.5 hours.
Area :
The Cairngorms
The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
