A refresher day for 2 ladies for winter navigation. Using the ridge to 1141 for timings, micro nav and pacing was useful, along woth learning to spot where snow drifts are deep and the effort it takes in deep snow, not to mention the time. 1141 was reached and both were happy with what we had covered and decided to return down. Very windy and hard work in fresh deep snow in places.
Area :
The Cairngorms
The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
