Description: SW through woods and tracks to ascend should of Wet Side Edge SW then S over Swirl How and S to Old Man of Coniston. Descend steeply to tarns and old mines. Ascend steeply by waterfalls to join path, taking off path route over Wetherham. Descend NE over Wetherham Edge some scrambling. Took best route N to old mineworks off path then followed valley and falls E then N to return to hostel.

Central Fells
The Vale of Keswick, provides separation from the Northern Fells whilst to the west runs the long valley of Borrowdale. The parallel eastern boundary is created by Thirlmere and the St Johns in the Vale. Grasmere to Windermere forms the remainder of the eastern boundary. In the west, Stake Pass descends into Great Langdale.
