Description

A walk in the hills above Kentmere valley. Following the path from Kentmere church i followed Garburn pass. I'd considered the kentmere horshoe race line steeply towards castle crag but decided against it as the bracken was tall and likely to leave me soaking. I followed Garburn to the near top before joining the big well maintained path to yoke. From here i touched the next few summits with the wind picking up higher near the top of the valley. I opted not to go out to high street but chose a lower trod traversing the head of the valley up high. I continued to skirt beneath Mardale Ill bell and harter fell on the nicer quicker grassy trods i found to speed things up in the weather. I arrived at kentmere pike and opted to nav over to shipmans knott as i planned on running this race through the week. I made a little effort to take my time and look for running routes off avoiding some rougher sections of path and craggy outcrops before joining the track and picking up footpaths i knew well to get back to the church and car.

Area : Far Eastern Fells

Reaching their highest point at High Street(828 metres) they occupy a broad area to the east of Ullswater and Kirkstone Pass. Much quieter than the central areas of Lakeland they offer in general easier but less exciting walking as the fells merge mainly into the surrounding moorlands. Exceptions however are the fine rock scenery to be seen surrounding the head of Haweswater
