Description

A wainwright mission on some un explored groud starting from Pooley Bridge given the weather may have flooded the road to Howtown. Set off in torrential downpour figuring we would see how the day went and worth a try to get out. We opted to stay low and join the ullswater was a very strong though dying strong wind was blowing from the South west. We followed this to Howtown before turning up on a trod to maintain our height round farmland into Fusedale following the beck up the valley. We crossed groove gill where we then started to turn east and aim directly to wether hill. Once crossed a 2nd stream we followed this line taking us directly to wether hills broad top. We summited high ground orientating ourselves realising we were south of the wainwright top and travelled north finding a cairn and satisfying us this was the summit. We followed obvious boggy track over to loadpot its cairn obviously visible aswell as the reassuring ruin of lowther hill just before. We followed a path looking for stone circles shown on the map before crossing more boggy terrain and picking up a trod and handrailing the edge to Bonscale Pike. From here we could see the traversing paths to Arthurs pike and maintaining height we ran to another ruin on the gill before traversing climb to the summit. We found an obvious path to the east of arthurs pike and finally dried off in some sun and breeze as we followed it back to a junction in the Ullswater way. Fromhere we simply retraced our route from Pooley bridge following the ullswater way again. 21km and 1000m ascent approx.
