A small outing once after coming home from a weekend away and my new terra nova lazer compact 1 had been delivered to a neighbour on saturday. I had researched the tents and was familiar with them so after a quick check that all parts were there i packed up to camp the sunday evening with an early morning rise planned to get to work on monday morning. I knew it could be inadvisable to pitch a tent on the hill for the first time therefore allowed plenty of time to get the tent up and tested before dark and actually having to get some sleep in it. I walked in my local hills the ochils which has lots of high, grassy dry spots ideal for camping. I walked up a steep little gully path i enjoy onto kirk craigs hill above tillicoultry at 385m before crossing the grassy plateau and on to one of the major paths. I walked along the top of the glen and a mossy area before turning west to Andrew gannel hill at 670m. The summit has a spacious plateau a little exposed to the wind but ideal for sunrises. I pitched my tent and spent some time getting the guy lines tight, hanging and adjusting the inner until I was happy with everything. Relatively easy but slicker practice required. I enjoyed some leftovers on the camp stove and had some tea.
I settled down for the night early as it was gloomy and sunset wasn't going to be much to view. In the morning I had some tea and opted to get down and have an easier breakfast at the van with not much water available for porridge on the hill. I traversed across to the law for a steep direct descend into the glen and a nice walk. I'd actually left myself alot of time so i dropped my bag and had a jog round the tillicoultry glen paths enjoying not carrying my camping kit.
I made some breakfast and headed off to work having spend 12hrs on the hill covering a small distance of approx 10km with 700m of ascent.
