Glenfinnan Horseshoe from south. Thuilm first but very wet above about 750m & along connecting ridge. A couple of ptarmigan on ridge. Occasional views to north, including to the hills on north side of Glen Dessary. Found a fiver by the path on descent, which was useful on the drive back, as I had forgotten my wallet and needed vegetables. On the ridge I had met 6 young folk with big rucksacks, who said they were heading for A'Chuil - I wonder. I guess they were short of a fiver! In lower Glen Finnan on my way out, I also met a young Aussie heading for Cape Wrath - seems bold for the time of year. Also met the very friendly stalker who had given us a lift years before. He was dressed in plaid jacket & plus fours with deerstalker hat - what great camouflage. He showed me brown trout which, along with salmon, were heading up river in the spate, to spawn. Also met him on the way out, placing acorns, with tempting peanuts, for the woodmouse. The mouse would eat some acorns ('So I'm employing him, I'm paying him for his work') but bury others, thereby planting oak trees. The acorns had to be under a stone, as the mice would not dine in the open.
Area :
Loch Eil To Glen Shiel (Incl Knoydart)
The Great Glen to the east, the A87 to the north and the A830 to the south separate this area from its surroundings and enclose an area of high mountains and low glens. The highest mountain is Sgurr na Ciche (1040m) and further north the South Glen Shiel Ridge is formed by a whopping seven Munros! Also in the area is The Saddle (1010m) which is home to the classic Forcan Ridge. Peaks in the mountains list are all above 900m.
