Description

Coniston Micro Navigation Day

Following on from the previous days night Nav on Wansfell a further micro navigation day on the southern flank of Coniston Old Man. A bright but very cold day.

From Walna Scar Car Park a series of navigation legs in the area of the Booth How, Limestone Haws and Little Arrow Moor. Final feature being Cove Hut and then onto Torver Bridge before returning. A good day which highlighted/reinforced challenges on remaining accurate (or adapting the strategy) when traversing broken ground.

Area : Southern Fells (Scafell Pike)

The Southern Fells Include Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England, occupy a broad area to the south of Great Langdale, Borrowdale and Wasdale. High and rocky towards the centre of the Lake District, the Southern Fells progressively take on a moorland character toward the south west. In the south east are the well known Furness Fells, their heavily quarried flanks rising above Coniston Water.
