MTA Night Navigation CPD.
Met outside Rockingham Arms by Canada common and did a bit of an introduction and ice breaker. Labelled out the objectives of the evening before making our way out. Att first east point did an east relocation and went through bearings and pacing, we could still see at the turn and did this to reinforce the learning and scaffold the evening
Then moved to harder areas, increasing distance, harder areas and went through 3 B’s and contour interpretation (difficult in lowland area). From this point we went through boxing out to teach about how to stay on a bearing when finding an obstruction, this went really well. After this I taught about timings, and how pace affects timings and how we can use this over a longer distance to accurately (not precisely) relocate our position. Following this moved to desd reckoning.
Overall, really good evening and lots covered with really good feedback. Next time I’ll do more on leap frogging and dead reckoning
