Description

I led all the crux pitches. Soloed the route until the first crux up the crack.
Very still conditions, still quite lean but good snow ice and frozen turf.
Climbed the route in 2 and a half hours.

Area : Ben Macdui, Carn Etchachan, Shelter Stone Crag and Stacan Dubha (winter)

The cliffs of the Ben Macdui massif offer some excellent and remote winter climbing, the best of which is found in Coire Sputan Dearg and on Creagan a' Choire Etchachan. Using a bicycle as far as Derry Lodge eases the effort required a little, but any climbs here will involve a very long day. This Area also includes the more accessible but still serious cliffs on the south side of the Loch A'an basin, notably Carn Etchachan and the magnificent Shelter Stone Crag, a stunning place to climb in winter.
