Description

Delivered a Mountain Leader Training for RAF Grantown while working with one of their course directors. The course was based around the Cairngorms and Kintail. Initail navigation training was done around Cairngorms with time spent on twin ribs for steep ground. River crossing was done local to Grantown. ropework was done local to Cieste carpark. For the expedition a trip over the three brothers and back via Cieste Dubh in Kintail was used. Night nav was done on approach to cam and again while camped at along the Allt Cam Ban.

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
