Five Sisters of Kintail, full version, East to West, from Bealach an Lapain to Allt a' Chruinn, including Beinn Bhuidhe and Sgurr na Moraich. Second outing on a great week staying in Ratagan village. Leading this route as a special request from Zoe, who had had her heart set on the full Five Sisters traverse for a number of years. As for Monday's walk, I also had Marion, Alison, and Bonnie the Whippet in the party. Warm conditions, with little wind, and good visibility. We were the only party on the hill to continue west after the 3rd Munro. Perhaps the last two summits are not as shapely or interesting to reach, but the views were excellent and there is a special satisfaction from finishing right on the sea at Loch Duich. Ice cream from the shop is an extra bonus! All did well, especially Bonnie, in a big day of nearly 13km and 1600m of ascent, which took us just under 10 hours car to camper van. Navigation was straightforward map to ground all day, with just a short section of scrambling in descent from Sgurr na Spainteach, easily dealt with even by Bonnie.
Area :
Glen Affric and Kintail
South of Loch Mullardoch you will find the Glen Affric and Kintail area whose southern boundary is the A87 road to Inverness. The Five Sisters of Kintail, Beinn Fhada, Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan and Carn Eighe are just some of the impressive peaks in this area, and all have their own unique selling points such as remoteness, size, steepness or height. As a result, peaks in the list are all over 900m.
