The climb into the Cheviots was manageable, but once on the tops, the hallucinations returned with intensity. My perception was distorted, with snippets of reality blending with dreams of Roman slabs looking like intricate paintings and stars colliding with the glittering snow under my feet. I was out of it! Suddenly, A Scandinavian woman caught up with me, she told me her name but it was hard to pronounce and even harder to remember, we decided to continue together, this helped me to stay focused. We reached Mountain Safety Hut 1 together, where I rested briefly, had some hot food then as I was feeling ok now I deciding to leave alone. However, I quickly fell back into sleepwalking and hallucinations, and eventually the woman caught up to me again. We continued together to Safety Hut 2. I could feel the end approaching and was eager to get going again. Once we left the mountain safety hut 2 we continued following the old roman slabs towards the Schil. We passed the Schil and descended towards the last style in which we could start our descent off the cheviots. Not long after leaving the summit we encountered woman who was utterly exhausted, she was being helped by two companions but they were struggling. After helping her get into her sleeping bag and wrapping her in an emergency blanket, we waited for mountain rescue to arrive. Once they took over, we continued to Kirk Yetholm together, where the journey finally came to an end. The sense of accomplishment was overwhelming after such an intense and surreal experience.
