Saint Rhemy to Courmayeur.
Peaks/Cols Crossed:
⛰️ Col Malatrà (2920m)
The final leg from Saint Rhemy to Courmayeur was both a physically demanding and emotionally charged experience. The route covered 29.46 km, with the ascent to Col Malatrà (2920m) being the most significant challenge of the day. The weather was overcast, with no wind, creating a calm and reflective atmosphere as I approached the final Summit. The climb to Col Malatrà was out of this world, with incredible views on the approach and even more spectacular vistas beyond the col. The final 10 km of the trail, leading to the descent back into Courmayeur, was equally stunning, providing a fitting conclusion to such an epic journey. As I entered the streets of Courmayeur, the realization that this incredible adventure was coming to an end hit me with intense emotion. The journey had been long, challenging, and deeply rewarding, and walking through these streets that marked the finish was both a moment of triumph and a poignant farewell to the mountains that had tested me in every way. I sat down, overwhelmed, with my head in my hands, almost unable to believe that it was truly over.
Challenges:
Physical: The final climb to Col Malatrà and the long descent into Courmayeur tested endurance and determination.
Mental: Managing the intense emotions of finishing such a significant journey, while staying focused on the final stretch.
Terrain: Varied terrain, with challenging ascents and descents, culminating in a stunning final section of the trail.
Navigation: Straightforward, with clear trails leading into Courmayeur.
This final leg of the TDG route was a powerful and emotional experience, marking the end of a journey that had pushed me to my limits and beyond. The stunning views, particularly at Col Malatrà, served as a reminder of the beauty that can be found even in the most challenging moments. Finishing the journey was intensely emotional, a moment of both relief and pride, and a testament to the power of perseverance and the human spirit.
