Expedition to Everest Base Camp via Gokyo Lakes with an extension for Lobuche East & Island Peak. Leading 14 clients working with an assistant leader, local guides and porters. Coaching in self-care in the mountains, nutrition & hydration, dealing with altitude, movement skills, packing rucksacks and the full range of skills necessary for the mountains and Nepal.
Day 5. Dhole - Machermo. 1 client came down with a rapid onset of HAPE just before Luza. We put him on oxygen and called in an evacuation helicopter. Also administered Nifedipine but vomiting mitigated its effects. On arrival in Kathmandu it was discovered he had covid which may have been the cause for his sudden and rapid decline. His son who was also on the trip descended with him to Kathmandu.
