I have known Ben for 5 years now (now 2014), he was one of my students at Wiltshire College Lackham; in fact, he was one of the best students I ever had the pleasure to work with on the Outdoor Adventure Course, in which he left with straight 'A' Distinction in every subject. Ben accompanied me on many expeditions in the UK and overseas; and his presence always brought a measured and mature approach to his peer group. Having enjoyed many days walking with Ben as an equal, I am always impressed with his knowledge, attention to detail and willingness to pass on information, but also to learn. He is a great individual and one I look forward to spending hill time with. If I ever require an ML or SPA for my own business needs, Ben is someone I will always turn to - without hesitation.

I've known Ben for around 4 years. In that time I've worked with him both as an ML and in an Indoor Wall. We've also spent time Rock Climbing together. Ben is safe, both personally and when working. He's very active and experienced with good judgement as a result. I'm sure he'll do well as he progresses through the awards. Good luck Ben!

I've known Ben since we were studying Outdoor Adventure together in College; as he developed I could always see the potential in him to become a great leader and instructor. During this time I have had the privilege of seeing this happen and in my opinion he is now a technically excellent climber and mountaineer. His progress during this time is incomparable, since learning to climb and navigate he has dedicated time to improving his personal skills and standards’, being reflective of what was successful and what needed more development. This attitude is rewarded by how quickly he overcomes the obstacles in front of him. As a climbing instructor, his patience and guidance to supports others is excellent. Never one to force someone to do something that could create a negative experience, always encouraging positive development. His manner with his climbing groups is excellent and he develops a great rapport with his groups. I have seen this on many occasions as I’ve visited him in North Wales, looking to pick up what I could to improve my own ability. As a Mountaineer and Leader, his attitude is incredible. We have been all over the UK trekking and he has recently introduced me to expeditions abroad, which I have found a new love for. I don’t feel this would have happened had Ben not been looking to the next challenge. He is a true mountaineer; his greatest strength in my opinion is his personal admin. This allows him to dedicate more time and focus to his surroundings and those within his group. His ability to share knowledge with his group or clients is also excellent, as a Mountain Leader myself. I am very protective of the groups I train and manage (often children), Ben is the first person I have trusted with a group of children in my care and that speaks volumes to the level of respect I have for him. Feedback from my participants is that he is very considerate and kind when teaching and leading, providing participants the opportunity to fix any mistakes but never one to lose patience if something were to go wrong. Therefore anyone reading this, I encourage you to give Ben thorough consideration when looking for a leader, assistant or when he applies to new courses for progression.

Ben came recommended as a potential employee for 360 Expeditions from various sources in the outdoor industry. To date, he has worked as an assistant leader for 360 Expeditions on Elbrus (led by UIAGM guides), Kilimanjaro, and assisted on rock climbing weekends and winter skill courses in the Pyrenees. We have asked Ben to work for us more regularly providing he gets his IML (summer) as we are currently developing several trekking programs for the Pyrenees which we are very keen to have Ben involved with. Ben is super enthusiastic about working for us and has been exemplary in his role as an expedition leader for the work he has done for us to date. We wish him the best of luck in attaining this award. Rolfe Oostra
