Description

Sidcot School Today.
10 participants from the age of 13 years +. This part of their PE syllabus.
The aim of these sessions is to improve confidence on the wall and learn how to be an independent climber.
Session structure:

This group has evolved into a mix of really good climbers and some new climbers. So to keep them all engaged was interesting. With those who were new to climbing, we worked on building confidence and learning a few basic techniques (foot swaps, edging, twisting).
But to keep the experienced climbers engaged, I had to move the group into an area with a broad selection of problems from VB-V6 and tasked the experienced climbers with structuring their climbing like a pyramid. i.e. to climb a yellow (V5-6), they had to climb two blue problems (V4-5), which meant doing three red problems (V3-4) prior to that, 4 Black problems (V1-2) prior to that and starting off with 5 VB-VO green problems. This kept them preoccupied and engaged, while I focused on the new climbers and ensuring that they were getting the necessary attention to build their confidence and to correct any poor practice and/or form.
