Description

A hike up Bealey Spur in the Black Range of the Southern Alps. It was a hot sunny day and I hiked from the West Coast Road at 700m where I had wild camped in the valley. I followed the track to the Bealey Hut. Here I met a British couple and two Germans who invited me to join them in an extended journey to the summit at 1545m (this does not have a name).
A very enjoyable 16 km walk with great company, no major challenges other than the constant up hill, and fantastic views of the Southern Alps.
