Description

Starting In Glenridding in thick fog and cloud I ascended to the "Hole In The Wall" via Mires Beck. The closer I got to Striding Edge the worse the Visibility got. I used A compass and map, more for the practice than needing to, as the trail was well marked. Striding Edge was wrapped in clag , but every so often I would meet other walkers. There was abit of a que developed at the "Chimney" section towards the end. By the time I made Helvellyn summit, there were about 12 others on the top. They all commented on the mist and most thought it wouldn`t clear, but I had done my homework with the weather and had good faith that there would be a clearing around lunchtime. (Starting to realise that MET Office website is better in Lakes than MWIS)
By the time i was half way down Swirral edge it was starting to clear, and by the time I reached the top of Nethermost pike , the views opened up. Superb!
I made my way down to Red Tarn and stripped of for a bit of Tarn swimming.
Good day in the hills

Area : Eastern Fells

The Eastern Fells occupy the region between the A591 Keswick to Ambleside road and the lake of Ullswater to the west. The Helvellyn range forms the main spine of the group. To the south across the depression of Grisedale Hause, is the Fairfield group of fells.
