A memorable early independant trip (with friends rather than supervised, though some of the people I was with definitly had more experience than I did then!) was to Edale Youth Hostel in January 1991 when I was 16. Over the two days we did the circuit of the Vale of Edale, both days were frozen with mists and fresh snow and the second day in particular was spent in a heavy fog which allied with the snow felt like quite a navigational challenge.
The exact dates of this walk are not know, the date therefore is aproximate.
