The walk out from Corrour Bothy, sounds simple but was one of the toughest walks I`ve done! Gale force southerly winds funnelled through the Lairig Gruh in poor visibility. First time I have been lifted off my feet by the wind, and that was with an overnight sack on. Bent a walking pole and got a few bruises in the process. My right hip was still giving me grief. The wind did not let up the whole way, quite unusual.
Area :
The Cairngorms
The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
