Grim, grim, grim, grim. Woke up to torrential rain. Hid in tent till 11am hoping for a break in the weather. Took down tent in torrential rain and wind. Slogged up Black sail pass in rain and wind. Staggered through col in horrendous wind. Skirted beneath Kirk Fell, Great Gable and Green Gable, holding the contour in very poor visibility, unstable ground and very wet underfoot. Skirted under Grey Knots as too windy to go over. Bashed down Honister pass back to Seatoller. Very wet. Saving grace is that it was a warm day.
Area :
Western Fells
The Western Fells form the southern wall of the Buttermere valley and the northern fence of Wasdale. Between the two lies Ennerdale so that in effect the group is the shape of a single horseshoe, each branch about 10 miles in length.
At the head of Ennerdale stands Great Gable. The southern arc of the group travels due west from Great Gable, the main ridge consisting of Kirk Fell, Pillar, Scoat Fell, Haycock and Caw Fell.
