Description

Guiding a group of 6 clients over the Ptarmigan Ridge to the summit of Ben Lomond. Snow was very firm on the upper slopes, requiring good footwork in crampons. A couple of the clients were new to walking in crampons and found the hard steep terrain quite intimidating - used confidence roping and step cutting to assist them up to the summit.
On the descent, we were asked to intervene to assist an older man who had become unwell and was struggling to make his way down. Someone had already phoned 999, so I checked the casualty and called in to MRT to provide additional information. Air Ambulance arrived and evacuated the casualty within 30 mins.

Area : Loch Lomond to Strathyre (Ben More)

Ben Lomond (974m) and Ben More (1174m) sit on opposite sides of this area which stretches from Loch Lomond to the western end of Loch Earn. There are two distinct sections, to the north and south of Glen Voil, with the remaining peaks sitting to the south of Loch Katrine. Access to the majority of the hills in this area is commonly from Crianlarich, Aberfoyle or Callander.
