My husband and I popped over to Norway for our anniversary. We drove up to the summer ski centre to do the highest mountain in the country. A bluebird day, absolutely stunning, and no people ( this mountain sees 60000 visitors a year, getting roped together by local guides and taken across the glacier).
So lucky we went right at the end of the season and got the weather to go with it.
A rocky start across shattered ground led to the glacier, which was nice enough to walk without crampons. its a couple of k across to the ridge that leads up to the summit, and at the bottom of the ridge we did require crampons for the shiny hardened ice. once on the ride, its was rocky so we removed the spikes.
The summit has a little café, closed when we were there, and a trig point with mountains and their distances and directions marked on.
4 other people on the top, one of which a local guy who claims to have never seen the top in this weather.
crampons back on for the descent after taking hundreds of pictures, and returned the way we came.
5.5 hours altogether.
