I started supervising groups in the outdoors aged 17 through a school outdoor education programme. As a student I worked at Alien Rock in Edinburgh which was the start of my instructing proper. However I would say I really started teaching in the outdoors during my PGCE year at Bangor Uni 2005-06. Since then I have taught in a variety of schools, outdoor centres and on expedition. I now work as a freelance MIC based in Inverness from where I run www.johannespetersen.scot mountain navigation courses.
I've known Johannes since he moved to Inverness a couple of years ago and it turned out that we have many common friends and colleagues. I've seen him delivering a rock climbing week for Glenmore Lodge and I was impressed by his professional attitude and the way in which he interacted with the students. I have employed Johannes to deliver ML refreshers and navigation courses for my own business, Scotch on the rocks Guiding, and I'm hoping he'll be able to work on Summer ML's in the future for me as feedback from clients has always been very positive. Although I've never been on the hills in winter with Johannes I have no doubt that he takes the same pride in his winter work as his summer and I’m happy to be a reference for his MIC application.
