I've lived in Snowdonia and been climbing all my life.
Although more sporadic in my earlier years, at about the age of 20, I became obsessed with climbing and it became one of the primary focusses of my life.
At the age of 22, a secured a job as a college lecturer and held this position for 18 years. During that time, one of my responsibilities was their BTEC level 2 outdoor provision. Taking students climbing, gorge-walking, and on multi-day expeditions didn't feel like "work". I left the college, and started the company Climb Wales.
Soon after though, I fell in love with paragliding, and in recent years this has almost replaced climbing in my personal life. I spent two years trying to bring a paragliding product to market, but the barriers to the European market proved insurmountable. As a result, I came back to Climb Wales and registered as a limited company in January of 2022.
Climb Wales has gone from strength to strength and is doing incredibly well. Through Climb Wales I deliver climbing courses, guided scrambling, corporate days out, and more. I'm absolutely loving the day job and regret not going down this path sooner.
Over the years, I have volunteered for the BMC, delivering lectures on subjects such as managing fear in climbing. I have also been a regular volunteer with the Clwyd Mountaineering Club. I took on the role of journal editor for a while, have been managing their website for at least 10 years, and regularly deliver climbing lessons for club members.
I also have four children, three of which are now teenagers, and all are passionate adventurers. My daughter having appeared on the BBC and ITV News at 10 having won a national competition as "Junior Adventurer of the Year".
