I have known Joe for a number of years as a friend and as a work colleague. Joe has proven himself to be a very keen climber and he is always encouraging me to go climbing with him. Every weekend he is off climbing in many different places within the UK. He is also a very keen winter climber having completed some hard winter routes. I have climbed with him during the summer a number of times and he has proven himself to been competent at both multipitch teaching and scrambling. During a recent staff training trip I was happy to leave him leading groups on multipitch climbs knowing that this would be done safely. At work Joe has taken on a role as a senior instructor in charge of training and he has performed this role extremely well and has developed the staff well in a full range of activities. He leads the training on all the roped elements and has proven himself to be responsible, mature, great at teaching and has attention to details. When Joe passes his MIA we have talked about extending his role within the outdoor centre to include trips away to areas like Snowdonia - this shows that all the senior team respect Joe and have confidence in this abilities. Relationship
I have known Joe for 5 years. He is strikingly handsome and has a great sense of humour. But above all else over the time I have known him he has demonstrated on many occasions excellent personal climbing skills, sound decision making abilities and that he operates safely and proficiently. Both when out climbing/mountaineering personally and when in charge of a group in both summer and winter conditions. He is able to combine safe and adventurous experiences with a focus on learning and personal growth for participants. I wish him all the best in his pursuit of the WMCI and offer up any assistance he may require during this time whilst proceeding through training and assessment.
