Alex worked in my department at YMCA National centre Lakeside as a Instructor and now works for use on a freelance basis . He has progressed in the last few years from summer ML and SPA to completing his Winter ML this year. He is an enthusiastic mountaineer and Instructor and is intending to apply his energy now to the MIA scheme and working his way through the process of becoming a qualified mountaineering Instructor. I have found Alex a very switched on Instructor with good experience knowledge and judgement. He has considerable drive and passion for all things mountaineering I have no doubt he will make in dew course an excellent mountain instructor and am very happy to recommend him as a candidate for the scheme and as a freelance Instructor.

Alex and I have been climbing partners for many years. We met while working as outdoor instructors at YMCA Lakeside, where I was a seasonal instructor and a freelancer. We have done a lot of rock climbing together, around the Lake District and Scotland, including the following winter routes: Chock Gully V, The Curtain IV, Left hand Grove IV, Taxus III, Taxus Ice Fall Finish IV, Jogebar Gully III, South East Gully III, as well as over 30 trad routes. He was instrumental in my leaning how to lead climb and the first winter lead climb I did was with Alex. We have been climbing in a variety of conditions, long walk-ins and multi-day adventures. I have always felt his knowledge and risk assessment ability has kept us both safe and pushed our boundaries. We both gained valuable experience and always came away feeling like we had both learned something, especially when doing practice climbs for Alex's MIA. His temperament is calm, knowledgeable, and thoughtful in such a way that inspires confidence. He is determined, professional and focused towards anything outdoors-related. From leading groups together, I know he was very well respected as a leader by his other outdoor instructor colleagues. I would recommend him unreservedly as a WMCI.
