James Miller (more often called Jim) began his mountaineering as far back as he can remember. His parents always used to take him into the mountains and hills as a child where he would run off ahead and then wait for hours for them to catch up. His passion for the hills and mountains has therefore stemmed from the time he was able to appreciate being in them as a child and admiring the stunning landscape and views.
He has climbed some very hard grades in the past but is more relaxed now and instead of wishing to constantly push his limits he seeks to providing training and assistance to others while climbing for the pure joy as opposed to any thrill. You are just as likely to see him cranking up an e4 as your would be seeing him climbing a VD with one of his friends introducing them to the sport for their first ever time.
He holds many different Paddlesport, biking, mountain and snow sport qualifications making him a full all year round instructor and able to draw on knowledge from many different coaching angles.
To Jim having the awards is about proving that he can do what he loves safely helping others achieve the same. He prefers that people judge him on his personal ability and manner once they get to know him as opposed to what a piece of paper says that he can do. As the piece of paper does not describe him but instead only that which he can do.
His favourite climbing experiences would arguably be anything where he is touching the snow or the rock. But if he had to pick then possibly either moving together over three different e1 climbs totalling 1500m of ascent in a day, or putting up a new 1800m climb in one day in Spain which he never put forward for a new ascent so as to limit any individuals doing the route if they are not able for it.
James is a great climbing partner, I always feel safe and we've had some great adventures together. I also work with James and know I can always rely on him whether in a personal or a work situation. He works great with groups and has had some brilliant feedback from clients of our company.

James is an exceptionally hardworking and talented outdoor professional, capable of providing an outstanding service and conforming to best practise. He researches and plans carefully to achieve the best possible results from his clients and apprentices, an ethic he also applies to his own personal development. He is knowledgeable regarding the Highlands crags, rivers, mountains and routes and thinks nothing of sharing his knowledge and experience for the benefit of others. I find his personality to be friendly, welcoming and enthusiastic. I have worked with him personally in a number of environments and climbed with him in winter. He is safe, efficient and resourceful.
