Once I passed the Hill and Moorland Leader Award in 2015, I couldn't wait to tell my friends, who being Scout Leaders, had been interested in my training and consolidation, passing on tales of their own outdoor experiences.
I was then asked if I fancied becoming an Explorer Scout Leader, going on to do Duke of Edinburgh training for supervising and assessing young adults. This opened up a whole new me, learning to sail, kayak and canoe, mountain biking, climbing, skiing and of course, traditional Scouting skills such as cooking on open fires, knots and camping skills.
I enjoyed doing the Hill and Moorland Leader course so much, that it spurred me on to go and do a Summer Mountain Leader course and I became a Mountain Leader in September 2019.
I truly love the outdoors and lead walks for my local walking group as well as being a volunteer Walk Leader for The National Trust.
Non of this, I'm sure, would've have happened if I hadn't gone on to do the Hill and Moorland leader award.
