I am a qualified freelance Winter Mountain Leader, Rock Climbing Instructor (RCI), Climbing Wall Development Instructor (CWDI) , Foundation Coach and Rope Rescue Operator Instructor & PPE Inspector based in Conwy, North Wales. I am an active full team member of the local mountain rescue team and Chester Mountaineering Club. I am also a member of Mountain Training Association, British Mountaineering Council and Mountaineering Scotland. I hold First Aid at Work , MREW Remote Rescue Medical Technician and PHTLS Certificates & NNAS Tutor Award.
I spent my childhood in South Wales and was introduced to hill walking on the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons when I joined the Air Scouts. I got to learn this terrain extensively when I later served with the British Armed Forces, this is when I really got to understand the importance of personal navigation and moving quickly in the mountains at day and at night. I went on to pass the 21 SAS British Special Forces selection process during winter and continuation training program.
I am actively involved in and have a passion for climbing, mountaineering (both summer & winter). I have shadowed several qualified MCI/WMCI & IFMGA aspirant holders in their delivery of navigation, scrambling, multi pitch climbing, improvised rescue and lead climbing instructional days and I have been a mock client on MCI & WMCI and BMG assessments taking place in North Wales summer & Scottish winter conditions.
I have been fortunate enough to have climbed and trekked in Scotland, Switzerland, France, the Austrian Alps, Western Ghats in India, Norway, the High Atlas of North Africa, the Anti Atlas mountains of southern Morocco, Malta & Gozo and the Annapurna Sanctuary of Nepal leading successful expeditions to summit Mont Blanc, Jebel Toubkal and Annapurna Base Camp. I have a passion for winter mountaineering.
